60 days to go- EXAMS

I had a sleepless afternoon yesterday despite being in bed for over 3 hours. And I rarely fail to fall asleep; given my standards. It has been exactly 2 years now that I have joined orthopedics at MMC, and it fails to amaze me how it seems like only a couple of weeks. Well, back to the topic- why didn't I fall asleep?
I kept thinking of one thing over and over again; 'EXAMS'
Another 60 odd days to go before I write my post graduation exams and I was finally getting tensed about it. Never in the last 2 years did I even think about it for a minute, but yesterday my mind was all into it.
I started reading well today after clearing my mind of all the negative thoughts and with the divine blessings of Lord Chamundi; the only place in Mysore where I have sought peace.

The time has finally come for a final onslaught, just like the 45th over in a ODI. And what's more? I'm all excited to meet the challenge.
A new life awaits me at the other end of the exams and that gives me, all the more a reason to give my best.

Signing off for today....

Limp Free India

It pains me when I watch a disabled walk into my O.P.D. asking for a disability certificate. The poor individual has lost his ability to live life normally. He is dependent and desolate. I ask myself if I can help them out. A certificate would give them a thousand per month that would help his/her family support for the basic needs. But does it help the individual overcome his daily wrath? Surely no.

It dawned upon me real hard that someday I must do something more than scribble the percentage of disability on the certificates. It is when I conceived the idea of ' LIMP FREE INDIA'. An organisation which would help people with disabilities get back to normal through custom made prosthesis and ortho/neuro surgeries which should be done free/ nominal rates. It is too premature of it to become a reality. But someday 10 years from now, I am sure that I would turn my dream into reality and bring back a smiles to the needy.

Join hands for 'LIMP FREE INDIA'

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must, but don't you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don't give up though the pace seems slow--
You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than,
It seems to a faint and faltering man,
Often the struggler has given up,
When he might have captured the victor's cup,
And he learned too late when the night slipped down,
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out--
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far,
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit--
It's when things seem worst that you must not quit.

October Sky

Its kinda funny at the first place that i end up blogging about the movies I watch. But some are so beautiful that it just inspires me to write about it. Especially the ones based on true life stories. Life isn't the same for all of us. We all have ambitions and aspirations. We all wanna be the best in the world in whatever field we take (end) up. But not all are destined to achieve their goals. Or are we? Do we push ourselves out of the box to realise our dreams? I really dont know how many of us really satisfy our inner desire. May be the desires dwindle as the time moves on and we dont bother. We tear it apart and burn it saying it was only a hobby; may be at that point of time. Or may be the circumstances prevail over us and we are forced to walk out of our dreams. No matter what the innumerable reasons which we can account for, the fact remains that very few of us get what we really want to.
October sky is one really superb movie that I wish everyone watches. Not that its an extraordinary movie or something. But just the reason for that its a movie we all can relate to. Most of us,if not all are ordinary but if we fuel our dreams with hardwork and dedication;and the mere love for the thing that our heart wants to achieve; we all can reach greater heights. Everyone of us has it within them to make a mark, but we all refrain from the path citing some or the other reason and blaming it on the situations or circumstances.
An average school boy, Homer is inspired by the first rocket launched into space and sets out to achive his dream of launching a rocket for the US. He has his friends for support and his sets out with innumerable futile attempts to making a successful model. His dad, who works in the mining industry wants his son to do the same; and thats the way of life in the village. The only way one can move to college is through football scholarship. Homer fights many odds including being handcuffed and working in the mines for a few weeks to finally launch his dream rocket. Its a beautifully scripted movie with lovely emotional touches in between. If you are yet to watch it, make sure you do.
We all have a dream; lets make it come true.

Destined death- Meerut to Mysore

9 MARCH 2010 12:15 A.M.

It was a cool night, in terms of the work load at the emergency department. My colleagues and I were preparing to hit the sack at the duty room; we were resting for the past 2 hours and having fun. Its nice to have a cool duty sometimes. Just when a patient was brought in, gasping and in critical condition. His pulse and BP were normal, but GCS 3/15, pupils dilated. We intubated the patient and referred him to a higher center for a CT scan. Damn!! A tertiary healthcare center like ours doesnt have a 24 hour CT scan. With in minutes he collapsed and expired. So what's new?

Nothing in our scenario, but the fact that the patient who died was a retired man, on a holiday to mysore all the way from Meerut. He had come with a friend of his. An evening at KRS turned out to be fatal. He slipped a step in the rush and fell onto his head, he kissed death. The problem and stupidity was that he came 15 km to Mysore in an auto, thats because his friend was from Meerut and he had no idea as to where to call for help. The stupid CMO of our hospital made the self fall case as an MLC. What more, the poor guy will have to suffer futher. He will have to get slit into two to ascertain the cause of his death. He has his family based in Meerut.

I sank into my chair and gave it a thought. Life is full of surprises. Death also sometimes as in this case. A trivial fall in a garden(stairs) led to death. My belief in destiny only grew stronger. I remembered a poem from my school days wherein a soldier recollects the lost lives of his colleagues in a far away land alien to his hometown, where the dead lies burried in an unknown territory. Time for another case
